Write for us
We welcome pitches that help readers see familiar objects, materials and habits in a new, useful light. Send proposals through the Contact page rather than submitting a finished article unsolicited.
What fits
We are interested in clear, evergreen pieces about material choices, object design, care, repair, reuse and the history of how things are made or used. A strong proposal has a defined subject and gives readers a way to understand or consider it without relying on expensive tools, risky work or specialist intervention.
A useful pitch
Tell us the working title, the central idea, why it belongs here and what a reader will take away. Include a short outline and note any sources, access or images the piece would need. Please distinguish what you know from what you would need to establish.
Scope and care
We do not seek product endorsements, unsupported performance claims or instructions for hazardous work. If a subject involves safety, specialist assessment or rules that vary by place, explain that limitation and propose a responsible scope. Sending a pitch does not guarantee publication.
How to send it
Choose the writing proposal option in the Contact form and include your pitch in the message. Please do not send confidential material or personal information that is not needed to consider the idea.
Usefulness has a longer story
An object’s value is not only in its first use. Its materials, care and capacity for change can shape how long it remains part of a home.
